About The LAUNDRe Foundation

The LAUNDRe for LIFe Foundation, doing business as The LAUNDRe Foundation, is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. We are dedicated to restoring dignity, expanding access, and helping remove barriers caused by the lack of clean clothing and laundry services.

We recognize that poverty is not always visible. Hygiene poverty remains one of the most overlooked challenges affecting low-income families, students, returning citizens, unhoused neighbors, and residents facing financial hardship. Limited access to laundry services is a hidden but deeply personal part of that crisis.

Through community laundry support, partnerships, and sustainable outreach, The LAUNDRe Foundation works to increase laundry access and equity for D.C. residents who need it most. Our mission is to meet this basic need with dignity, compassion, and practical solutions that uplift individuals, strengthen households, and support lasting change.

Our Launch!

On Juneteenth 2025, The LAUNDRe Foundation officially launched in partnership with Bread for the City. We connected with 89 DC residents facing financial hardship and homelessness, distributed branded hygiene care kits and began building the relationships that ground our work.

Severe storms came through and shut the event down early. Trees came down across the city and neighboring states, and everyone caught outside got soaked! But residents kept trying to come to our table for resources and information about what we do. We told them we’re here to help laundry access and equity in DC and the response told us what we already believed: lack of laundry access is a real and unmet need, and our residents will show up for a solution built around dignity.

That launch was the beginning. Now, we’re moving to direct laundry support through Community Laundry Days that bring no-cost laundry access to DC residents and families facing hardship.
